Blog: WhatsApp Business Number Requirements
To get a WhatsApp Business number, you primarily need a dedicated phone number that is not currently linked to a personal WhatsApp account. Note, if you plan to use the Whatsapp API through Whatzapio, the Whatsapp application becomes a desktop application with full-fledged functionalities and advanced features.
Key Requirements
- A Valid Number: You can use a mobile SIM, a landline (verification via voice call), or a virtual number from a provider.
- Verification Access: You must be able to receive an SMS or a phone call on that number to enter the 6-digit verification code.
- Business Details: Have your business name, category, and a profile picture (like a logo) ready to complete the setup.
- Internet Connection: A stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection is required for the registration process.
Types of Accounts
| Feature | WhatsApp Business App | WhatsApp Business API |
| Best For | Small businesses/solopreneurs | Medium to large enterprises |
| Requirements | Just a smartphone and a number | Meta Business Manager ID & BSP |

The Blue Badge
The blue badge (which recently replaced the green checkmark) signifies that an account is an Official Business Account (OBA) verified by Meta. It proves your brand is authentic and notable.
How to get it
There are now two main paths to get the blue badge:
- Meta Verified Subscription (New):
- Available for users on the WhatsApp Business App.
- Requires a monthly paid subscription.
- You must provide official business documents (like a tax ID or registration) to prove your identity.
- Official Business Account (API Users):
- For businesses using the WhatsApp Business API.
- Your brand must be notable (featured in news articles or widely searched).
- You must have 2-Step Verification enabled and a verified Meta Business Manager.
Key Benefits
- Trust: Customers see your business name instead of just a phone number, even if they haven't saved your contact.
- Security: High-level impersonation protection.
- Visibility: Improved brand recognition across Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram).
There are two main paths to get that verification:
1. The "Meta Verified" Subscription (Easiest for the App)
If you use the standard WhatsApp Business App on your phone, you can now "buy" the blue badge through a monthly subscription.
- Requirements: You must provide official business documents (like your GST registration, Shop Act license, or Udyam certificate) that match the company name.
- How to do it: Go to Settings > Business Tools > Meta Verified. If it's available in your region, you can start the application there.
2. The Official Business Account (For API Users)
If you use a WhatsApp Business API (through providers like Interakt, AiSensy, or Whatzapio) to handle high volumes of inquiries, the blue badge is free but harder to get.
- Requirements: Your brand must be "notable." Meta looks for organic news articles or press mentions about your company (like features in Magazines or major newspapers).
- How to do it: You apply through the Meta Business Manager under the "Settings" of your WhatsApp account.
